Cringe Worthy Things Christians Say #1
Let’s play a round of cringe worthy things Christians say when they mean well but forget their theology!
I’ve definitely been guilty of trying to say something helpful but cringed as the words came out. You too?
I’ll go first!
Let’s say you’re going through a difficult time & you need help to think biblically, but you tell me, “well, I didn’t want to burden or bother you.” That’s fingernails on a chalkboard to me! Let’s think biblically about this wrong assumption.
1. The Bible specifically commands us to bear each others burdens & seek wise counselors.
2. You’re robbing me of the joy of being a blessing! You see, part of my waking prayer is asking God to give me eyes like Jesus to see the needs around me & His strength & wisdom to meet those needs when He brings them (I made a free template on my website to create your own first morning prayer! )
3. You’re robbing me of using my spiritual gifts! You see, at the moment of my salvation, the Holy Spirit took up residence in me & when He did He brought a unique blend of spiritual gifts so I could bless those in the body of Christ & give glory to God! Using my spiritual gifts is actually so invigorating! God not only gave me these gifts but when I’m walking in the Spirit, He does the work through me so that He’s the one who gets the glory! All I do is be willing & yielded to Him!
Ted Talk: Its actually the worst thing to not know & develop your spiritual gifts! By not knowing or using them it tends to make one feel isolated, useless & even somewhat depressed because they aren’t making an impact in others lives. It can also lead to exhaustion because you’re doing too many things that aren’t your gifts!
Like you could ruin my life if you asked me to make cookies, approve curriculum, put data into a spreadsheet, or organize a storage closet. Those things would be so hard for me not because I’m a loser Christian, but because God didn’t wire me to be good at those things (grab my study on spiritual gifts & you’ll get what I’m saying!
